Lakeside Takes Third in Season Finale

Posted Sunday, February 22, 2009 by Troy Hughes
The Eagles finished their season this past weekend in the Tacoma Dome. And Lakeside as always saved some of its best wrestling for the end. The Eagles traditionally always perform well at State and this year was no differentas the Eagles took third with 120 points (Orting 201, Warden 127) with only seven wrestlers compared to their 16 and 15 wrestlers. Mike Buamgarden was the first Lakeside wrestler to place. Mike reached the semis before losing to the eventual champion. Mike then wrestled his way into the 3rd/4th place match. Mike fell short in this match finishing 4th at 112. At 119, Bryan Buamgarden couldn't have ended his career at Lakeside any better. He first beat the defending 112 champion in the quarter-finals. Then in the finals he beat his favored opponent to claim his first state championship, ending his senior season for the Eagles. Jacob Lauderdale at the beginning of the season expected nothing but perfection for this season. And with his third straight champioship (this one at 125), Jacob completed his undefeated senior season and a great career at Lakeside. At 130, Josh Lauderdale was able to reach the semi-finals, before losing a close match. Josh was able to wrestle his way baack into the 3rd/4th place match and win his last match to take 3rd. Alex Lazott came into the season only 2 weeks before districts, but Alex was able to make his way to state. Unfortunately he was not able to continue his cinderalla story going two and out at state to end his senior season. Josh Karas last year went two and out, at districts. In his senior season Josh was able to improve from that. Josh reached state for his first time but was not satisfied with that. Josh was able to place 6th in his year surpassing many expectations.  In the last match of the night, Ben Fuson finished his career at Lakeside with a second straight 2nd place finish. Ben pinned his first three opponents, and in the finals faced a familiar opponent. The two had faced three times before with Ben winning the regional finals. But Ben lost the match to finish second. The Eagles say goodbye to a great group of seniors with all but one qualifing for state. The Eagles will have a young team next year with only 3 having state experience. The eagles will now switch gears as will the website as now the freestyle/greco season starts
