Season Comes to an End at the Dome

Posted Sunday, February 21, 2010 by Joe Shmoe
The Eagles from the beginning of the year had a goal of placing in the top four in the state tournament. Only qualifying five wrestlers from the regional competition, Lakeside had a difficult task ahead of them. Unfortunately the Eagles did not reach their goal finishing a disappointing 13th place. Out of five, Lakeside placed three in the tournament. Being the only freshman to qualify, this was an experience for 103-pounder Jacob Ulland. Jacob grew tremendously though despite losing his first two matches. Chase Fuson at 152 qualified for his first state tournament but was unable to place, going 1-2. At 215, Dallas Watkins in his first state competition advanced all the way to semi-finals before losing to the eventual champion. Dallas would lose his next two matches in close battles to finish 6th place. Mike Buamgarden, wrestling 119, was looking to improve upon his previous finishes of 2nd and 4th place. Mike made it to the semi-finals but lost in a close match. Mike showed great character as he was able to bounce back from this lost and finish 3rd. The last semi-finalist was Josh Lauderdale at 135. He was able to win that match in overtime and make it to the finals. Josh faced a familiar foe that he had already wrestled and lost against. Josh was however unable to turn the match around losing 2-0 to place 2nd. Lakeside will be bringing back valuable experience as all the state placers will return next season. Congratulations to Lakeside and all of the wrestlers on a great season. The website will now begin to focus more on freestyle/Greco-roman.
